The Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) will launch a project to generate electricity from daily rubbish in the Mandalay municipal area, according to U Than Zaw Tun, head of the Water and Sanitation Department.
Approximately 1.7 million people reside in the townships of Pyigyidagun, Chanayethazan, Chanmyathazi, Aungmyaythazan, Maha Aungmyay, and Amarapura, disposing nearly 1,300 tonnes of waste daily. MCDC will collaborate with a South Korean company to produce electricity from this waste.
“The Mandalay City Development Committee is going to implement a project that will produce electricity by burning rubbish. Therefore, we are working with a South Korean company. The company has conducted a survey and will return in December for further survey work,” said U Than Zaw Tun. — ASH/MKKS
