Lenovo reveals market expansion goal in Myanmar


Chinese technology giant Lenovo aims to expand its share of the Myanmar consumer electronics market from 21 to 28 percent by the end of the fiscal year, a company official said Wednesday.
At the company’s first media conference in Yangon, Dr Harry Yang, vice-president and general manager of Lenovo South East Asia, said the company had set a goal of becoming the region’s No. 1 personal computer brand within two years.
“On the business front, we see strong growth momentum in Southeast Asia, with Myanmar being a key growth driver in the region for Lenovo,” he said.
With a population of over 51 million people, it is estimated that Myanmar’s IT market will grow from US $110.51 million in 2011 to $233.56 million in 2016, Dr Yang added.
Mr Roland Chew, country general manager of Lenovo Indo China, said the firm will increase its investments in all segments of the country. Key areas of investment include expansion of retail stores, desktop sales and after-sales services, he added.
Lenovo entered the Myanmar market in 2009 and is the leading seller of PCs in the country.
