Labour-affair activists say labour demand has been high at garment factories, as a result of labour shortage.

At present, garment factories have also made vacancy announcements via Facebook pages.

“Many vacancy announcements for garment factories have been seen recently. They’ve made announcement for vacancies at factories as well as online. Most vacancies are called depending on skills. Some factories don’t pay overtime payment and other allowances,” said a labour activist.

As some workers from industrial zones went abroad, some factories have made new recruitment.

“Now, industrial zone workers went to overseas countries such as China and Thailand. Especially, skilled workers from some factories went abroad. Some factories are still able to maintain their skilled workers. Overall, labour shortage is happening. When skilled workers trained for years left, it affects factory owners to some extent. Because it needs to take time, maybe a year, two or three years, to train new comers,” he said.

Most workers went to foreign countries illegally and some who have contacts are doing well, but some are getting into troubles, he said, urging to approach legal migration only.
