Kengtung detour commissioned into service to reduce traffic congestion in downtown Kengtung

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony to commission a detour of Kengtung into service in Shan State (East) yesterday morning.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla were warmly welcomed by town elders, residents, ethnic traditional cultural troupes and students at the ceremony.
SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Council members General Mya Tun Oo and Lt-Gen Nyo Saw, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant and Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung formally opened the detour whereas the Senior General unveiled the stone plaque of the facility.
The Senior General presented cash awards to pom-pom dance troupes, ethnic traditional dance troupes and ethnic cultural groups. The Senior General and party inspected the detour by car.
The Kengtung detour on Meiktila-Taunggyi-Kengtung-Tachilek road aims to reduce traffic congestion in downtown Kengtung and ensure a swift flow of commodities. Construction of the detour started in 2019. The detour, six miles long and 23 feet wide, is of asphalt concrete.
The opening ceremony was also attended by union ministers and their wives, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the commander of Triangle Region Command and officials. — MNA/TTA
