Myanmar women’s national football team suffered a 0-1 defeat to Iran in the first match of the Asian Qualifiers Round 1 for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 played at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon yesterday.
Myanmar team head coach Daw Thet Thet Win used his favourite line-up including May Zin Nwe, Moe Ma Ma Soe, Zune Yu Ya Oo, Yu Par Khaing, Naw Htet Htet Wai, Win Theingi Tun, San Thaw Thaw, Khin Mo Mo Tun, Captain Khin Marlar Tun, Phyu Phyu Win, and Myat Noe Khin.
Since both teams are strong, they started attacking from the kick-off.
Team Myanmar had many opportunities to score in the first half, but due to misunderstandings between the striker and the midfielders, they were unable to convert the chances into goals. The Iranian team also played with tough defensive play and counterattacks, and the first half ended with a 0-0 score.
In the second half, team Iran was able to take advantage of the Myanmar team’s defensive weaknesses and occupied a lot of space.
At a time when the power of the Myanmar team was losing, team Iran broke the deadlock with the header of Afsaneh Chatrenoor in the 52nd minute.
After getting the goal, Iran’s players played more cleverly and controlled the result of the game.
The players of the Myanmar team continued to lack understanding and missed many chances until the final whistle.
Win Theingi Tun’s kick was saved by the Iranian goalkeeper and Pont Pont Pyae Maung’s long shot hit the crossbar, so Team Myanmar suffered a loss.
Since Myanmar lost the match against Iran 1-0, they will only be able to advance to the next round if they can get a decisive victory in the second match. — KZL
