After the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II reopened, importing of goods from Thailand to Myawady has operated on a regular basis, except for delays in transportation, according to Myawady-based traders.
“Trade has operated normally, but there are delays in transportation because it is the monsoon, so roads are muddy. We can’t say exactly how many trucks go on a daily basis because of transport barriers and some difficulties in seeking import licences,” said a Myawady-based trader.
Goods conveying into the country increase when transport is convenient or decrease when roads are blocked due to weather conditions, he said.

“Imports have been normal after the No 2 bridge reopened. Just delays are happening through journey due to transportation barriers,” he added.
At present, goods transport has to use old Dawna Range Road and Htaw Kaw Koe Road, he said. Flood happened a few days ago in Myawady due to heavy rain, but it has now returned to normal. “It does not flood from the mountain stream, just roads were covered in water due to heavy rain. It’s not severe,” said a Myawady resident. — MT/ZS/ED
