Illegal timbers, foodstuffs, smuggled materials and confiscated

A combined on-duty team under the management of the Customs Department at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint confiscated a Mitsubishi Fuso van and a Hyundai van (approximately K55 million), headed to Myawady from Yangon, carrying 200 bags of white sesame and 300 bags of peanut worth K54 million without official documents on the Moppalin-Sutpanu-Ingabo detour and a Higer bus (approximate value of K30 million), headed to Yangon from Hpa-an, carrying 7,560 bags of Wai Wai instant rice vermicelli worth K2.31 million on 1 August. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
A combined team conducted inspections at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) checkpoint on the same day and nabbed a Nissan Diesel vehicle (estimated value of K35 million), headed to Hpa-an from Myawady, carrying 250 bags of Xuemei Monosodium Glutamate without official documents. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
A combined team led by respective District Forest Departments impounded a total of 14.494 tonnes of illegal teak and 3.103 tonnes of hardwood worth K5,238,272 in the Bago and Nyaunglebin districts on 2 August. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
A total of eight arrests were made on 1 and 2 August, with an estimated value of K199,048,272, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
