According to Dr Than Sein, Chairman of the Public Health Foundation, youth health volunteers are conducting community-based work to diagnose and treat patients with high blood pressure and diabetes in 90 villages across Kyaunggon and Einme townships in the Ayeyawady Region.
“If we identify individuals with hypertension or diabetes, we coordinate with the relevant health centres to arrange long-term treatment. We have found that 50 per cent of people with high blood pressure or diabetes were unaware of their condition. Without timely treatment, they could face serious consequences. This initiative is part of the Public Health Foundation’s community-based programme,” said Dr Than Sein.
The Public Health Foundation added that the focus of diagnosing and treating diabetes and hypertension is primarily on villagers aged 40 and above in these areas. — ASH/MKKS
