The gold embroidery industry is still running normally in the Yangon Region and the sales of tapestries are on the rise currently, according to U Thura, an owner of the Kumudra Gold Embroidery in Tamway Township.
There are two types of embroidery such as decoration on paintings and clothes. Currently, the sales of clothes decorated with gold embroidery are in better condition than the paintings.
“We call it the old category which means golden-embroidered paintings. It is just in normal condition currently. The sales of the new category, golden-embroidered clothing are rising. That sector grabbed good profits last month as there were ceremonial occasions. Now, we receive large number of orders for the coming Thadingyut festival. As you know, it takes time for golden-embroidered clothing as it is a real handmade artwork. The demand for clothes for traditional Nat statues including Bodaw and Meldaw, and also pillows,” he added.
In Yangon Region, the market share of the new category is larger than the old one. The golden-embroidered clothing and other materials for Nat statues including Bodaw and Meldaw are in good sales. — ASH/KTZH
