Garlic price skyrockets while prices of beans and chilli pepper decrease

The wholesale price of Shan garlics rose from K8,500 to K9,000 per viss in the Yangon market on 26 June 2023.
The price of No 5 large-size garlic is K9,100 per viss even in the Aungban region, indicating a possibility that the price of Shan garlic will soar up again in Yangon. When palm oil and Shan garlic prices go up sharply, chilli pepper and bean prices fall again.
The wholesale price of various chilli peppers dropped by K1,000 per viss in the Yangon market on 26 June 2023. A tonne of pigeon peas rose to K3.33 million on 5 June, and a black gram to K2.461 million on 14 June, while the price of gram fetched K6,000–K6,200 per viss.
However, the prices went down to K2.875 million for a tonne of pigeon peas, K2.27 million for a tonne of black gram, and K5,800–K6,000 for a viss of gram on 26 June.
During the last week of June 2023, due to the instability of financial market, commodity prices fluctuated rapidly. — TWA/CT
