Gale-force winds damage buildings in Mandalay, Shan State

Strong wind began blowing throughout Myanmar in early April as the nation enters the annual season for gales, lightning and hails.
Strong winds blew off the roofs and partially damaged over a hundred houses in Yamethin Township and over 50 houses in Pyawbwe Township, Mandalay Region, while also uprooting trees and felling utility poles.
Similarly, over a hundred houses were also damaged by strong winds in Namsang, Langkho, Hsihseng and Monghsat townships of Shan State.
Strong wind between 9 April to 9 May have so far destroyed 407 houses and 14 religious edifices, partially damaged 6625 houses and 135 religious edifices, and killed 2 people across Myanmar.
The Department of Disaster Management, under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, has provided over K335.7 million for purchasing food, construction materials and rescue equipment in addition to supporting the deceased.
