Myanmar exports fishery products worth over US$700 million annually, with more than 175,000 tonnes of products, valued at $276 million, exported through sea and land borders during the first half of the 2023-2024 financial year, according to U Myint Shwe, the Director of the Department of Fisheries in Yangon.
The country exports a wide range of fishery products, including both freshwater and saltwater varieties, using various transportation modes, including maritime, air, and land routes. Major export destinations include China and Thailand, and notably Myanmar’s fishery product exports held steady before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the current financial year, it is anticipated that earnings from fishery product exports will approach nearly $800 million.
