Myanmar Fisheries Federation and Mon State Fisheries Department are working together to conserve fish species and increase production of Crocker Fish, which has a decent price in the local fish market, according to U Kyee Ngwe, Secretary of the Myanmar Fisheries Federation.
Crocker Fish is widely consumed in the local fish market and has a good price. As it is a type of fish that has market stability, the two fishery bodies are collaborating on research activities to improve conservation and production.
“Crocker Fish is widely consumed in the local market because of its good price. As the market is strong, the first step is to maintain the domestic sufficiency. The next step is to send it abroad. Currently, experts are researching together with the Department of Fisheries. We are doing this to improve the fish production rate in the fish farming section,” said U Kyee Ngwe.
Crocker Fish is caught the most during the winter months such as Tazuaungmone, Nattaw, Pyatho and Tabodwe (Myanmar months). Demersal fish named Croaker, is most commonly found in the mixed area of freshwater and saltwater, and saltwater areas.
Especially, they are mostly found in the Ayeyawady Delta region and Gulf of Mottama. — ASH/KZL
