Farmers extend cultivable lands with assistance of irrigation facilities

Under the supervision of the Mandalay City Development Committee, the Irrigation Department is striving for development of the agriculture sector in the region with its attempts to irrigate farmlands and construct new drains, canals and power control buildings in the townships.
In Singaing Township, a total of 35,615 acres of farmlands are irrigated by three dams through Paleik, Myaunghson, Minye, Tamok and Thindwe canals.
The department dredged Khamauk, Natthaye, Nwahtein, MaU, Baw, Thi and Kathegon tributary canals to irrigate the farmlands in 2014-15. Moreover, it dredged Sunye and Minhla Lake.
The Irrigation Department built Shwehlanbo and Hteedawmoe river pumping stations from Dokhtawady River so as to supply water to the farmlands.
Thanks to the efforts of the department, the local farmers could extend their farmlands.–Maung Pyi Thu (Mandalay)
