Ethnic media conference kicks off

The first day session of the Ethnic Media Conference in MraukU, Rakhine State, was dominated with discussion on challenges for future of ethnic minorities’ media and for the freedom of expression during the time of the next government.
“Shortage of fund, small market and shortage of skilled man power are posing as main challenges for all ethnic media to stand on their feet in the future, said U Khaing Myat Kyaw,  the Chief Editor of the Narinjara News. The conference kicked off yesterday, attracting around 50 ethnic media across the country and representatives from Myanmar Press Council and the government.
Meanwhile, the participants of the conference also discussed the development and the future of media in the country.
“It is questionable for us all media whether we can fully have the rights of access to information in the time of next government,” the chief editor said. In the evening session of the conference, representatives from the Myanmar Press Council discussed the development of media in Myanmar, highlighting the role of  freedom of expression in the time of the next government. The three-day conference will end on 16 February.— GNLM
