Effective seizure of illegal goods in Yangon and beyond

Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to prevent and prosecute illegal trade continue effectively in accordance with the law.
On 16 July, a combined team managed by the Nay Pyi Taw Council Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force made inspections and seized 1.814 tonnes of illegal teak timbers and 1.140 tonnes of other timber worth approximately K547,102 in Lewe District and Ottarathiri District. The action was taken under the Forestry Law.
On 17 July, a combined team managed by the Kachin State Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force conducted inspections and seized 5,250 kilogrammes of sodium cyanide without documents valued at K68.25 million and the action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On the same day, another team managed by the Yangon Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force conducted inspections and seized one unregistered Toyota Passo worth approximately K3 million near Myanmar Plaza, Bahan Township. The action was executed under the Import-Export Law.
On the same day, a combined team managed by the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force made inspections and seized China-made food: 360 cartons of seafood branded Imitation Prophyra, 340 cartons of seafood branded Blasson with Fish Roe and nine other items of food worth approximately K143.192 million. The action was undertaken under the Import-Export Law.
On 17 July again, a combined team managed by the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force conducted inspections and seized 0.341 tonne of illegal teak timbers, 2.042 tonnes of hardwood, and 2.358 tonnes of other types of wood worth approximately K2.223 million in Toungoo District; and one unregistered Toyota Crown worth approximately K4 million in Wow Township. The action was carried out under the Import-Export Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that eight arrests were made on 16 and 17 July, resulting in the seizure of illegal goods worth approximately K242.213 million. — MNA/TMT
