Due to fewer applicants, C of I centres to provide service until 6 July

Since the number of applicants for certificate of identity (C of I) has been fewer, C of I centres in Thailand will provide service until 6 July, announced by Myanmar Embassy’s Labour Attache Office in Thailand.

The announcement on C of I application states C of I issuing was begun on 23 February 2024 in order to help Myanmar migrant workers to be able to work officially in Thailand and C of Is were issued for those who registered in Thailand employment department.

It is initially planned to stop C of I centers on 30 June 2024, however, the Myanmar Ministry of Labour will extend to 6 July 2024 in order to help Myanmar workers to be efficient and due to the request by Thai employment department, it said.

Five C of I centres are set up in Patong Division, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chonburi and Surat Division and three mobile unit camps are stationed in Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan and Songkhla provinces on 23 February 2024.

C of I process, date and time for applying C of I and contact numbers for inquiry are provided, and applicants should go in person, not via brokers, so that they don’t need to pay more, the Ministry of Labour urged when C of I centres were intiated.

“I’ve heard the closure of C of I centres will be temporary for now because the number of applicants has been fewer. We all have waited further announcement on how officials from both parties would continue to provide it. It is still uncertain,” said a Myanmar national in Thailand.
