DPM MoTC Union Minister inspects freight handling at Thilawa Port, work process of related departments

State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo inspects the workplaces of the Department of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems office in Pazundaung Township, Yangon yesterday.

State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo inspected jetties of Thilawa Port managed by the Myanma Port Authority in Thanlyin-Kyauktan region of Yangon and various departmental units under the ministry yesterday morning.
On arrival at the Myanmar International Terminal Thilawa (MITT), the General heard reports by U Zaw Tun Lwin, Director-General of the Myanma Port Authority, on development activities at the Thilawa Port and officials from MITT and other port bridge companies on their operational matters. The Union Minister emphasized that maritime trade is a crucial backbone of the nation’s socioeconomic development. He stressed the need for simplifying procedures to facilitate smooth maritime trade and noted the importance of private port operators in this context. He instructed them to continuous monitor international and regional changes and emphasized fair and effective collaboration between government and private sectors.
The inspection included a review of container and general freight-handling measures at MITT, unloading of fertilizers, management of edible oils and crops at Wilmar Myanmar port, container and general cargo handling at Thilawa MPA International Terminal (TMIT), and fuel distribution at the Padauk Shwe Wah Company’s fuel jetty.
Subsequently, the Union Minister visited the Myanmar Maritime University in Thanlyin. He met with the university’s rector, administrative officials, and faculty members. He advised aligning maritime education with international standards to ensure students are well-prepared. The Union Minister also reviewed the university’s modern e-library system, document management, and maritime training simulators and providing instructions for further enhancements.
In the afternoon, the General visited the Myanma Port Authority office in Kyauktada Township. He met with departmental heads, emphasizing the need for all civil servants to perform their duties with a strong sense of national spirit and adherence to civil service ethics. He highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness and order in office environments and encouraged young employees to engage in continuous learning to enhance their capacity.
At Marine Administration Department in Botahtaung Township, he reviewed the Integrated Vessel Monitoring and Tracking System presentation.
Next, the Union Minister visited the Department of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems office in Pazundaung Township. He inspected office facilities and ongoing expansion projects, including the construction of an RC dockyard for repairing and maintaining government vessels and dredgers. — MNA/KZL
