Competency in critical thinking is closely related to higher performance of a leader.
When you take part in a leading role of an organization, you will exactly face difficult situation of decision making and problem solving especially for youth leaders. There are no more topics to the success of business today or government organizations than leadership and critical thinking. In the 21st century, several recent studies and surveys have identified critical thinking as the top requirement for successful leadership. But increasing evidences are showing that a lot of emerging leaders need to improve this skill.
Leadership is reciprocally among people related to critical thinking. It is problem solving activity involving the use of power with the ability to influence people to achieve a goal. There are many challenges in the 21st century to be responded with its complex political, environmental, social and economic pressures. It requires young leaders who are highly creative and critical. In highly developed countries, the schools introduce creative and critical thinking as effective learning. These thinking are strongly linked to succeed in our workplace. A leader practicing the way of critical thinking will be adaptable to new circumstances of globalization, good governance, changes in customers’ interests and great expectations of the people, changing in economics, high technology and increasing wide diversities with very competitive environment. A critical leader can undertake the activities with a reasonable systematic approach following identifications and analysis of several complicated problems. Absolutely, he cannot avoid the risks in solving problems, but he can minimize those risks by focusing specific objectives. A creative and dynamic leader can be flexible and can practice open style of management and he will honor his commitments at all levels of responsibilities. He can manage the works and his team effectively by responding the strength and opportunities, threats and weaknesses. In the critical condition, he is able to use the accurate information for effective management, which strengthens his/ her accountability and transparency. Furthermore, such good way of thinking creates the ability to think clearly and rationally, by understanding the logical relationship relevant to this situation among the different ideas. Really it has been the subject of much debate and thought since the time of early ages in current modern age, it is a subject of discussion to recognize very believable fake news and stories.
A critical thinker fully understand the links between ideas and determine what is important idea, what is relevant argument and he also recognizes and appraises argument with identification of conflict inconsistencies and errors in reasoning. And, they evaluate what idea works well and what requires for improvement. It is an objective and critical way. You can take practice by understanding and improving your critical thinking theory and skills. When you think of something that the special event recently occurred, ask yourself if the following questions, who make it? , what is the event? Where it occurred? When, why, how, etc. One of the most important features of thinking is to get the best possible solution and make a sharp decision based on range of possibilities. However, we must expect a range of likes and dislikes, different preferences, biases, unforeseen impediments to continued progress. In that place the most importance is that we must have the clear foresight ourselves. If we have aware of above unexpected conditions, our critique will be productive.
For success in a rapidly changing world 21st century skills are important for all the students, leaders and employees now than ever before. 21st century skills comprise twelve abilities that today leaders need to succeed in their carriers during the information age. Critical thinking is one of the 4 ‘c’ creativity, collaboration and communication. Others are information, media and technology literacies, flexibility, leadership, initiative, productive and social skills. Critical thinking is one of the learning skills required to adapt and improve upon a modern work environment and leadership is one of the life skills focusing on both personal and professional qualities.
Researchers did the studies to explain that there was a positive relationship between critical thinking skill and leadership training in many studies which address leadership development with the ability of youths to make sound decisions and excellent judgment is essential to become productive citizens. The studies show the strong relationship between leadership training and critical thinking because leaders, who do not practice, are dangerous and less and less motivated as they make decisions that affect others.
Lastly, it is clear that change for mind-set is needed to more critical thinking in the workplace. We believe today leadership development programs will fulfill some competencies missing in youth leaders in such critical areas, strategic thinking, leading change, and ability to create a vision and engage around others ability to inspire, understanding total work program and how the parts work together. Today youths are future leaders. For that reason, we should develop leadership training curricula, workshops and activities focusing on critical thinking skills, which are also important for educators and leadership trainers at schools and universities.
