Coordination meeting held on prevention and control of diseases caused by natural disasters amid COVID-19 surge

The Ministry of Health and Sports held the coordination meeting on the prevention and control of diseases caused by natural disasters during the COVID-19 surge and the acceleration of vaccination, yesterday afternoon through video- conferencing.
At the meeting, Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win said in addition to the recent cases of COVID-19 infection, care should be taken to prevent the infection and other communicable diseases when people are temporarily relocated to temporary camps during the floods, adding the need to take precautionary measures in the camps.
The Union Minister added the need to systematically conduct the COVID-19 vaccination as per the guidelines and to the designated groups; the plans are underway to build oxygen plants to provide more oxygen to COVID-19 patients, as well as more COVID-19 treatment centres, are building with medical supplies.
The Director-General of the Department of Public Health and Medical Services said the vaccines sent from the Central Government should be linked to the Cold Chain System in the military hospitals to keep the vaccines in cold storage and distribute them to townships.
He added the vaccines should be given to all designated groups, in addition to the people over 65. If more volunteers are needed, they will be guided by the relevant administration council.
Officials from the Department of Public Health and Medical Services in Kayin State, Mon State, Bago Region, Taninthayi Region and Rakhine State reported on the incidence of floods in the respective regions and states, healthcare in the temporary camps and prevention measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and storage and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and further activities, as well as the completion and ongoing work to increase the oxygen supply for COVID-19 patients.
The Union Minister and officials provided necessary instructions at the meeting. – MNA
