Chinese Ambassador visits Mawlamyine to bolster Myanmar-China cooperation

Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chen Hai visited Mawlamyine, Mon State, on 24 June.
During his visit, he met Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein.
The visit aimed to promote cooperation with Mon State, according to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. Mr Chen Hai remarked that Mawlamyine, being the sea exit point of the Nujiang River, known as the Thanlwin River in Myanmar, symbolizes the shared future between Myanmar and China. He noted that Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai visited Mawlamyine in 1961.
The ambassador stated that the embassy team would follow Premier Zhou Enlai’s legacy and continue to build on the outcomes of President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Myanmar, fostering the bond of friendship between the two countries. He emphasized that enhancing relations and cooperation with Mon State will benefit the people of Myanmar.
Mr Chen Hai also met Chinese descendants in Mawlamyine, encouraging them to promote China-Myanmar relations. During his visit, the embassy team donated stationery and teaching aids to No 11 Basic Education High School Mawlamyine, a Chinese-Myanmar friendship school. — ASH/TMT
