Care for the Future: Chinese foundation donates sports equipment to schools in Yangon

The China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD) and the Myanmar Chinese Cooperation and Communication Centre donated sports equipment to six basic education schools in Yangon Region yesterday as part of the ‘Silk Road from the Heart: Care for the Future’ programme.
This is the fourth donation, and the ceremony was held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Yangon on 2 August. During the event, Deputy General Secretary of the CFPD Mr Liu Zhenzhong, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar Ms Qiao Li, Chief Editor of Pauk Phaw Magazine U Ye Naing Soe, Deputy Director of the Yangon Region Basic Education Department Daw Khin Than Oo, and Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education U Kyaw Htoo Aung, delivered opening remarks.
Mr Liu Zhenzhong stated, “A total of 19 schools have been developed under the ‘Friends of the Silk Road’ programme. I believe that students from these friendship schools will contribute significantly to China-Myanmar people-to-people diplomacy. We have initiated many projects in Myanmar to strengthen people-to-people ties, especially in healthcare, medical treatment, and education, investing over 20 million yuan.
“We are collaborating with the Nay Oak Foundation and the Myanmar Chinese Cooperation and Communication Centre on various child health projects, library donations under the ‘Books from the Silk Road’ initiative, and electrification projects in northern Myanmar.”
This donation, part of the ‘Silk Road from the Heart: Care for the Future’ programme, benefits six basic education schools in the Yangon Region: No 2 Basic Education High School Latha, No 13 Post Primary School Mayangon, No 8 Middle School Branch Dagon Seikkan, No 18 Basic Primary School Hlinethaya, Basic Middle School (Htawwat) Thanlyin, No 18 Middle School Branch Thakayta, and Yangon University of Foreign Languages (YUFL).
Ms Qiao Li, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar, handed over the sports equipment, valued at K30 million, to the schools. The heads of the recipient schools expressed their gratitude for the donation. Senior President of Myanmar China Cooperation Centre U Thit Sa (aka) Mr Li Bo Bo also presented honorary certificates to the volunteers from YUFL.
The year 2024 marks a significant period for China-ASEAN cultural exchange, and this event aims to promote collaboration between the two countries in education and culture while supporting sustainable development.
Since its establishment in Myanmar in 2011, the CFPD has developed a total of 19 schools under the “Friends of the Silk Road” programme, along with two hospitals and 20 other projects aimed at enhancing socioeconomic conditions. — TWA/TMT
