Campaign on developing reading habits, libraries held in Myaungmya

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, accompanied by Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, attended the ceremony to launch the “Developing Libraries and Raising Reading Habits” campaign at No 1 Basic Education High School in Myaungmya yesterday.
Speaking at the event, the Union minister, who is also chairman of the Myanmar Libraries Cooperation Development Committee, said the students should study well and respect their parents and mentors.
The awareness campaigns regarding reading are being conducted across the nation, and the State Head also focuses on library development and an increase in reading frequency. Students should cultivate reading habits for their improvement. He then urged the students to read all varieties of books and publications and to become reliable citizens of the country.
He donated five DTH receivers and 15 DVB T2 set-top boxes for basic high and middle schools.
He also received K15 million for one new library construction project.
Next the region chief minister donated 6,460 books and publications for 323 libraries in the region to the region’s Social Affairs minister.
After the entertainment programmes of famous singers and students, the Union minister gave cash awards to performers and observed the displayed books, journals, departmental booths, photo exhibitions, story-telling competitions, essay competitions, painting, quizzes, impromptu talks and fun game competitions. — MNA/KTZH
