[dropcap font=”0″]O[/dropcap]ur country will see its second general election in late October or early November this year, as promised by the Union Election Commission. With the big day approaching, the electorate is itching to grasp the once-in-five-years chance to create a more reliable and responsive government.
The UEC has urged eligible voters to ensure they are on the electoral register in their respective constituencies, advocating that voting be treated as a right rather than a privilege.
Truly, every citizen over the age of 18 should keep in mind that the election is a time to decide the fate of the country. In addition, the election is a time to choose candidates who can take the country to a new level of prosperity. It is also a time to vote against candidates who seek to maintain the status quo. We should not lack that level of common sense.
Soon, candidates will canvass for votes through mass media and political broadcasts. We should take a hard look at their election promises and determine who deserves our bet best. At this juncture, we cannot afford any missteps that may hinder the upcoming elections. After all, we should come together and use the ballot box to create a better future.
