Bago Region sees tourism surge with increased visitors, revenue in early 2023

In the six months from January to June 2023, tourist destinations in the Bago Region attracted 185,378 local and foreign visitors, according to U Tin Oo, Minister for Economic Affairs of the Bago Region government.
“A total of 182,358 local travellers and 3,020 foreign travellers visited the Bago Region from January 2023 to the end of June. Compared to the same period last year, the number of visitors has increased by 14,489. The income from tourism reached K2,196.48 million, which is more than K266.5 million higher than the same period last year. Most of the foreign travellers were from Thailand,” said U Tin Oo.
The Shwemawdaw Pagoda, the Kyaikpun Pagoda, the Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha Image, and the Kanbawzathadi Palace are popular attractions for both domestic and foreign tourists. Foreign visitors typically arrive in group tours with packages rather than individually. — ASH/MKKS
