Officials from Bago Region have planned to develop a new agri-tourism destination at the estuary of Sittoung River in Kawa Township, Bago Region.
Members of Myanmar Tourism Entrepreneurs Association and departmental officials led by Bago Region Minister for Planning and Finance U Nyunt Shwe made a field trip to the estuary of Sittoung River on 29 January 2021 for the development of a new agri-tourism destination.
“This area is prosperous for becoming a tourist destination due to the agriculture with tidal irrigation. A location suitable for the destination will be submitted to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism”, the Region Minister U Nyunt Swe said.
“If the development of the tourist destination is approved, individual income of the locals will increase. Tourism, the smoke-free industry, has long-term benefits for increasing the country’s GDP”, he added.
The field trip is part of the implementation of the decision made at the meeting between the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and relevant regions/states, districts and townships on nature tourism and agri-tourism. —Hein Htet (Bago) (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
