Agricultural land survey to verify accurate cultivation area records

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation (MoALI) has announced plans to cultivate all arable land fully and to verify the accuracy of the current agricultural land area records. The ministry is committed to ensuring that every piece of cultivable land is utilized to its full potential, focusing on improving the per-acre yield rather than expanding the sown acreage.
Efforts will be concentrated on achieving target yields for ten major crops, even though production might decline in some regions due to climate change. The overall national agricultural output is expected to increase, thanks to enhanced productivity in other areas. MoALI Union Minister U Min Naung stated this during a meeting at the ministry’s office on 21 August.
The ministry will scrutinize the agricultural land records and supervise cultivation of crops on all arable lands. The verification process will also involve a detailed analysis of different crop types to confirm the accuracy of the land records.
In the 2023-2024 financial year, 33.78 million acres were cultivated for ten major crops, consuming a total of 413,000 tonnes of necessary inputs, according to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development.
Myanmar has approximately 12.25 million hectares of cultivable land, with 70 per cent of the population relying on the agriculture sector for their livelihood. — TWA/KZL
