The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation has been screening 6,823 applications to issue fertilizer registration under the approval of the Fertilizer Technology Group.
The Fertilizer Committee holds a quarterly meeting to ensure quality fertilizer for growers. A total of 11,573 registrations have been granted with the approval of the Fertilizer Technology Group after the 41st meeting of the committee.
Additionally, 1,957 registrations were voluntarily cancelled according to individuals’ consent. The department revoked 2,793 fertilizer registrations for expiration of validity.
Deputy Minister Dr Tin Htut for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, who also acts as chair of the Fertilizer Committee, committee members and experts attended the 42nd Fertilizer Committee held on 19 August.
The chair of the committee addressed matters regarding the contribution of agricultural inputs, including fertilizer, towards flood-stricken monsoon paddy fields to remedy the negative impact on crops. The authorities concerned are focusing on technical assistance works to apply fertilizer to the farms systematically.
Moreover, a combination of fertilizer and organic fertilizer will increase soil nutrients, create root development, and promote the growth of crops. Incorporating rice husks into the paddy field also helps plants prevent the uptake of toxic elements. He also encouraged the farmers to use straw bio-charcoal.
He also elaborated on the distribution of fertilizer in a timely manner for monsoon crops for 2024-2025 agricultural projects being implemented under the State’s Economic Promotion Fund, tactics for improving fertilizer use efficiency and management to ramp up production and suggestions of committee members. — NN/KK
