Vitex (chaste tree) seeds are selling briskly in the medicinal ingredient market, according to the market sources.
Vitex seeds are mainly useful for running nose, headache, stroke and eye diseases and they are bought for traditional medicines in China. As these seeds are in stock, sales are brisk, and medicines made from this seed are used all over the world, according to the pharmaceutical market.
“It can cure running nose. It is also used for headache medicine. In addition, and it can be used for eye disease, stroke, and pain medicine. We export it to China. It has health effects which are formulated as a medicine. Vitex has a good market. Its trading is good. We continuously buy and stock it from the market. We export after drying it. It is produced for about three seasons a year.” said a seller of medicinal ingredients in Ahlon township.
It naturally grows in the central Myanmar and its seeds are actively traded in the Yangon market this season due to China’s demand.
“Vitex seeds fetched a higher price last year. This year, the price has dropped a bit. It is cultivated as well as grows naturally. The plant is small. It is produced along the areas in Myittha, Bagan and NyaungU,” he said.
Vitex seeds export to China was started with a trial in 2015, and the market has become strong since then.
