The supply of Gounkhar (Leptadenia reticulate) is usually large in monsoon season, resulting in decline in price and the trading is doing well at the same time.

The Gounkha price was pretty good in summer and it is used as an ingredient of betel quid as well as in making herbal medicines,

“Price is not much good because the supply is abundant in monsoon. Price has fallen now compared to summer. In last summer, price was pretty good. Gounkha is mostly used by betel accessory shops and betel quid shops. It is also used in making traditional medicines in powder form such as yat sar (oral supplement). It is also bought by herbal medicine shops. Both Yangon and Mandalay have placed order for Gounkhar,” said a Gounkhar trader from Meiktila Township.

Gounkhar is available in all seasons but largely produced in monsoon. It can’t be planted as it is included in the group of gamon species.

“It produces in all seasons, especially abundant in monsoon. It grows naturally. We tried to plant it but didn’t succeed. We can just make it preserved,” he said.

Gounkhar is easy to be rotten under the heat of summer so the price is normally getting high in summer.
