Social workers are distributing food packs to flood victims.

When donors want to provide meals for flood victims, they are advised not to pack food immediately after it is cooked and also to ensure no water enters the room, Shwe Myitta Social Relief Association Chair Daw Shwe Le suggested.
She suggested it because the conveyance of food packs takes time during the journey, and food needs to withstand the heat of the vehicle and the possibility of getting wet during the trip by boat, she said.
“Some are afraid of being late. Most use disposable food packs, put foods inside shortly after being cooked and close them immediately. That is why I want to suggest waiting for a while before they close the container; if not, foods can easily rot due to heat along the journey. It also needs to make sure that food containers do not leak when they are carried by boat. I want to suggest donors to ensure proper packaging and conveying,” she said.
She said she wants donors to provide sanitary napkins for women and also wants to help pets in flood-affected areas.
“We mostly ferry along Letpadan, Okkan, Taikkyi and Monyo. Along the route, we have set up a team that cooks food at a location nearest the flood-affected area and donates warm foods to victims on behalf of donors. As emergency aid, sanitary napkins should be provided, too. Women quite get into trouble during their period amid flood. And I also want to urge donors to consider dogs and cats when they are going to deliver foods to flood-affected areas,” she said. — Thit Taw/ZS
