According to the sources of the Global New Light of Myanmar, local wet tea was sold better than dry tea in Ywangan’s market in July.
Since it is difficult to dry the tea in the sun in this period at Ywangan market in southern Shan State, farmers produce more wet tea, so it reportedly sells better.
“Tea is traded well now. Sales don’t fall even in the rainy season. People buy it. As it is difficult for sun-drying, people don’t dry it. They sold their stock and made wet tea. Wet tea sells better,” said a tea shopkeeper in Ywangan township.
As with the dry/wet tea market in 2023, there will be no change in the tea market in 2024 and there may be price changes when the rainy season is over.
“Last year, the tea market didn’t go down, and this year, it is the same. It doesn’t go down, and it doesn’t go up. Wet tea will have a higher price after the rain. It is the same for dry tea. The price should be a little better. This time, there are more people who make wet tea, and it rains here every day,” he explained.
