Defendants who killed gold shop owner and looted jewelleries sentenced to death and imprisonment

The Ahlon District Court has made a verdict that sentenced the defendants who killed the owner of the Zamburit gold shop and robbed golden and silver wares to death and respective prison terms on 30 July.

The case happened on 8 October 2023, at 7:30 pm, when U Min Zaw Oo, the owner of the Zamburit gold  shop in the open night bazaar, Kyimyindine Township, Yangon Region, and his son, who walked back to their home after closing the shop, were robbed of K 5 million in cash and about one viss of gold worth K 325 million in total, by three persons in police uniform. U Min Zaw Oo was beaten in his head, dragged into the car and taken away by the looters.

The body of U Min Zaw Oo was found near zero mile beside Yangon-Bago road on the morning of 9 October. A murder case of (Pa) 143/2023 was filed against three persons at the Kyimyindine police station under sections 170, 346, 392, 397, 302 and 411 of the penal code.

The police investigated and revealed the suspects – Waing Chit Ko Ko (aka) Phoe Thar Lay, Ko Phyo, Khaing Ko Maung, Shwe Sin Shwe (aka) Shwe Sin, Aung Zeya Paing (aka) Ahthaylay, and Kyaw Thu Win (aka) Bo Che –  and prosecuted them to the Ahlon District Court which started a trial of criminal case no 105/2023 on 14 November 2023.

Since Waing Chit Ko Ko (aka) Phoe Thar Lay, Ko Phyo and Khaing Ko Maung were convicted of murder, they were sentenced to two-year imprisonment each with hard labour under section 170 of the penal code and to capital punishment under penal code section 302(a)(c).

Shwe Sin Shwe (aka) Shwe Sin, Aung Zeya Paing (aka) Ahthaylay, and Kyaw Thu Win (aka) Bo Che were sentenced to two-year imprisonment each with hard labour under section 411 of the penal code.
