Library development and reading campaign launched in Yamethin

Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn and officials cut the ceremonial ribbon to unveil the archway at yesterday’s event in Yamethin.

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended a ceremony to launch the “Developing Libraries and Raising Reading Habits” campaign at No 1 BEHS in Yamethin Township, Mandalay Region, yesterday.
First, the Union minister cut the ribbon with relevant officials to open the archway of the festival and gave cash prizes to cheerleader groups, music bands and dance troupes.
In his speech, the Union minister, who is also Chairman of the Myanmar Libraries Development Cooperation Committee, highlighted the guidance of the Head of the State and urged the students to cultivate reading habits to enrich their knowledge. At the same time, campaigns on developing libraries and raising reading habits are ongoing across the nation.
He then presented five DTH dishes and 15 DVB T2 Set Top Boxes for the middle and high schools to headmasters and headmistress, and Mandalay Region Information and Public Relations Department officials donated books and publications for No 1 BEHS, Yamethin.
After the entertainment programmes of students, the Union minister gave cash prizes to performers and observed the displayed books, journals, departmental booths, photo exhibition, story-telling competition, essay competition, painting, quizzes, impromptu talks and fun game competitions. — MNA/KTZH
