Flood victims evacuated to relief camps, provided with relief supplies

Local authorities inspected flood preventive measures, evacuation of flood-affected people and disaster management activities in regions and states.

More than 10-day torrential rains trigger flash flood and overflow of rivers and creeks in many parts of the nation, inundating some low-lying areas of regions and states.
Volunteers from charity associations, Tatmadaw members, members of auxiliary fire brigades, members of Myanmar Police Force and service personnel from relevant departments carry out rescue and relief measures under the supervision of relevant disaster management bodies in regions and states while health personnel perform necessary healthcare services and prevention of infectious diseases for the people from flood-ravaged areas.

Taikkyi Township
On 27 July, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein comforted flood-affected people and provided basic foodstuffs and cash assistance in villages of Taikkyi Township. A total of 145 families from villages are accommodated at the relief camp in the precinct of Myathettha Pagoda in Okkan. The Disaster Management Department provided them with 16 kinds of relief items.
The chief minister inspected flood preventive measures at Padonpeik embankment in Aphyauk and overflow of water at mile post 10/6 and 11 on Taikkyi-Aphyauk road near Intaing Village.
Officials also distributed 16 kinds of relief supplies and cash assistance to 140 flood-victim families at monasteries in Phokhaung Village.

Kangyidaunt Township
A total of 3,889 acres of farmlands in 15 village-tracts of Kangyidaunt Township in Ayeyawady Region were flooded due to rising water level in Dhaka River and heavy rains. Officials inspected conditions of Pathein-Kyangin railway which was inundated at mile post 171/6 and 171/8 near Dkaha Village of Kangyidaunt Township.

Thaton Township
The Chairman of Thaton Township Disaster Management Committee and officials distributed basic foodstuffs to flood victims from Duyinseik and Zaymathwe villages in Thaton Township of Mon State yesterday.
A total of 701 flood victims are accommodated at relief camps opened at TatU monastery in Duyinseik Village and Yankinaung Monastery in Zaymathwe Village as Donthami Creek raises water level in torrential rain. Officials provided rice, cooking oil, eggs, instant noodle and purified drinking water worth some K3.3 million to the victims.

Taninthayi Township
Taninthayi River’s water level is rising due to heavy rain starting from the first week of July. The river’s water level exceeds one foot and 10 inches more than the danger level 24 feet of Taninthayi. Overflow of river water floods the urban area of Taninthayi Township. Local authorities and rescue teams evacuated 154 flood victims to the relief camp at Bawdikan Village monastery and 129 more victims to Banthe monastery yesterday. From 25 to 28 July, 1,148 flood victims from 246 households have been accommodated at relief camps and their relatives.

Pakokku Township
Pakokku Township faces ebbing of water level to 2021cm from 2150cm in Ayeyawady River yesterday. Local authorities and Department of Information and Public Relations release flood warning of Ayeyawady River to the people on a daily basis.

Bago Township
Overflow of water from Bago River affects Yangon-Mandalay Highway in Bago, exceeding 97 cm more than the danger level of 880 cm at Bago. Flood victims are accommodated at 10 relief camps opened at monasteries and schools in South Zaganaing, Kyunthaya, Ywathit, Oktha Ward 7 and Myothit wards. The regional government provided aid to those victims.

Kyaukkyi Township
In Kyaukkyi Township of Bago Region, local authorities managed evacuation of 393 people of 91 households from Bago, Katkyay, Theintan and Thaungle villages and village-tract to MyoU Monastery and their relatives on 26 July and 642 more people on 27 July because of overflow from Kyaukkyi Creek. Local administrative body, Tatmadaw members, fire brigade members and Red Cross members provided aid to those victims.

Loikaw Township
Chairperson of the Disaster Management Committee of Kayah State Chief Minister U Zaw Myo Tin met with officials from the relevant departments at the Disaster Management Committee Office in Loikaw yesterday morning for the preparation for rising water level in Balu Creek.
The chief minister and the officials inspected bridges and instructed officials to assign sentry for flooding and release flood warning to the people if necessary. Furthermore, the chief minister and party also inspected the National Race Youth Development school and highlighted the need to open the school as quickly as possible by reconstructing the school campus also destroyed by the terrorists. — Region/State IPRDs/TTA/TRKM
