Myanmar delegation attends 46th session of World Heritage Committee in India

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Myanmar delegation led by U Moe Kyaw Aung, Myanmar’s Ambassador to India, attended the opening ceremony of the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee. The ceremony took place at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition and Convention Centre in New Delhi, India, on 21 July.
The session is scheduled to run from 21 to 31 July. During the meeting, discussions will cover proposals for nominating new sites to the World Heritage list, reports on 124 existing World Heritage sites, international assistance, the allocation of World Heritage Funds, and other related issues.
Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi delivered the opening speech. The ceremony was also attended by Minister for External Affairs Dr S. Jaishankar, Minister for Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, UNESCO Director-General Ms Audrey Azoulay, and Chairperson of the World Heritage Committee Shri Vishal Sharma.
This marks the first time India is hosting the World Heritage Committee meeting. The event will see the participation of over 2,000 international and national delegates from more than 150 countries. — ASH/TMT
