Confiscation of illegal items: consumer goods, foods, motorcycles and vehicles

Under the oversight of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to prevent and prosecute illegal trade are being effectively enforced according to the law. On 17 July, combined teams managed by the Customs Department conducted inspections at the Asia World container checkpoint, leading to the seizure of 40,100 kilogrammes of China-made GI pipes (with an estimated value of K58.947 million) from 19 containers. Action is taken in accordance with Customs procedures.
The same day, the combined teams under the management of Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force seized 300 packets of Knorr chicken powder made in Thailand (estimated value of K4.15 million) on a vehicle driving from Mawlamyine to Mandalay and a Scania Bus carrying these items (estimated value of K40 million) and five products (estimated value of K15.562), including 103 containers of 18-litre vegetable oil made in Thailand, without official documents, Kantaw Ward in Waw Township, with a total value of K59.712 million, and action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.
In addition, on 17 July, combined teams of Customs Department found two containers at the Myanmar Industrial Port and seized three types of goods including 1,917 kilogrammes of window lock (estimated value of K8,472,870) which were carried more than the import declaration. On 18 July, the teams also impounded two vehicles driving from Tachilek to Yangon at Ywathagyi dry port, including 4,050 kilogrammes of Organik Tissue Paper made in China, which exceeded the import declaration form (estimated value of K18,134,550), and one Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and one Isuzu Giga Truck (estimated value of K72 million) carrying these products, and action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.
In addition, on July 18, duty-assigned teams under the management of the Shan State Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force seized a total of five products (estimated value of K2.21 million), including two Air Pumps, which were piled up on the side of the road beyond Sinphyu point in Muse, and action is taken in accordance with customs procedures.
On 18 July, a combined team under the management of the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force serving at Yadanabon Bridge Checkpoint seized one unlicensed Hijet (estimated value of K6 million) and one unlicensed Toyomax-125 motorcycle (estimated value of K300,000) in Sawbwa Ward 4, Tamu, and action is being taken in accordance with the Export/Import Law.
Also, on 18 July, a joint task force under the management of the Magway Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force nabbed 42.666 tonnes of smuggled charcoal (estimated value of K320,000) in Pwintbyu Township, Minbu District, and action is being taken in accordance with the Forest Law.
Additionally, on 19 July, the Kayin State Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force conducted an inspection at the Thanlwin Bridge combined checkpoint. They seized 680 5-litre jerry cans of two-shrimp brand cooking oil, 170 18-litre jerry cans of cooking oil (valued at K34.48 million), and two Mitsubishi Fuso Canters carrying these items (valued at K60 million). In total, items worth K94.48 million were seized, and action is being taken following Customs procedures.
On 19 and 20 July, the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force inspected areas in Toungoo and Pyay districts, uncovering 0.105 tonne of illegal teak timber, 5.633 tonnes of hardwood, and 0.431 tonne of other wood (valued at K4.84 million). They also seized an unlicensed Honda Freed in Bago Township (valued at K5 million) and took action under the Export and Import Law.
Similarly, on 19 and 20 July, the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force inspected the Yadanabon Bridge checkpoint, where they seized unlicensed vehicles including two Nissan AD vans, one Toyota Wish, and one Honda Fit (estimated value of K28 million). Action is being taken in line with the Export and Import Law.
During the period from 17 to 20 July, a total of 25 cases (estimated value of more than K358.417 million) were seized, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/TKO
