A 23-year-old man who attempted to kill himself by jumping from Shwepyitha Bridge was saved in time, Shwe Myitta social relief and rescue association chair Ma Shwe Le told the Global New Light of Myanmar.

He tried to commit suicide on the evening of 10 July after he rowed with his pregnant wife and he had allegedly made a similar attempt before.

“A person we know called our association for help. He allegedly attempted suicide by hanging before. It is known that he did it due to their marriage is not doing well. He is a Muslim and Shwepyitha resident. We could console him with the help of Muslim religious associations,” said Ma Shwe Lae.

She said it took about an hour to try to comfort him.

“It took time for nearly an hour, we listened to his hardships and consulted back,” she said.

They connected with respective Muslim religious association and drove him back home when his condition seemed safe. – Thit Taw/ZS
