Yangon-Kawthoung-Ranong container shipping starts 8 July

As a new system of cross-border trade, container ships started to trade to Yangon-Kawthoung-Ranong, and they docked at Kawthoung, Taninthayi Region, on 8 July.
An official said that the large container ship that departed from Ahlon Port, Yangon Region, docked at Kawthoung Port, Taninthayi Region, at the checkpoint on 8 July and proceeded to Ranong, Thailand.
The cargo ship, which arrived from Yangon to Ranong, Thailand, using this border trade method, was inspected at the checkpoint at Kawthoung Port.
Currently, Myawady and Phayathonsu, Kayah State’s border trade situation is suspended due to conflicts, and officials said it should go by container system using sea travel.
The big container ship that operated with the new system is the Indian ship MV Beypore Sultan, which left with four containers of 99 tonnes of refined lead metal and 52 containers of 1,300 tonnes of millet, arriving at Kawthoung Port on the night of 7 July and cargo inspections are received on 8 July and departed to Ranong, Thailand.
The big ship will return to Kawthoung after loading some goods from Thailand and will continue to deliver goods to Yangon Region.
The new trade model is a result of the Myanmar-Thai regional border committee meeting held on 29 June 2024 at Pale Thanda Hotel from Myeik, Taninthayi Region. — Myint Oo (Myeik)/KZL
