Myanmar, Pakistan discuss enhancing bilateral ties, Buddhist pilgrimage promotion

Myanmar and Pakistan recently engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors and promoting pilgrimages to Pakistan’s ancient Buddhist heritage sites, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The talks were led by Myanmar Ambassador to Pakistan, U Wunna Han, and Pakistan’s Joint Secretary Asia-Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, in Islamabad.
During the meeting, they focused on promoting pilgrimages to Buddhist heritage sites such as Taxila, Gandhara and Bhamala, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which were part of King Ashoka’s empire 2,300 years ago, where Buddhism thrived. These sites boast 1,700-year-old Buddha statues, stupas, and temples. — ASH/TMT
