The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, in collaboration with the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), is working on a project to establish the Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary as an ASEAN Heritage Park, according to the ministry.
The sanctuary, located in Bago Region between Bago and Waw townships, features 120 species of mammals, 28 species of amphibious and reptiles, 33 species of insects, 59 species of hibernated birds, 77 species of domestic birds, 44 species of fish, and 74 species of aqua plants.
The Department of Forest has also begun efforts to designate Mount Popa, Shwesettaw Wildlife Sanctuary and Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary as additional ASEAN Heritage Parks.
Myanmar hosts eight ASEAN Heritage Sites, including Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, Khakaborazi National Park, Inlay Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, Alaungtaw Kathapa National Park, Mainmahla Island Wildlife Sanctuary, Natmataung National Park, Lampi Marine National Park, and Htamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary. — TWA/KZL
