Many people are interested in raising imported lionhead geese, according to the information asked by the Global New Light of Myanmar.
These lionhead geese are bigger than those in the domestic poultry market, and interest in them varies from breeding them as pets to breeding them for laying eggs.
“The geese we breed are not the same as ordinary geese in Myanmar. They are two and a half to three times the size of a domestic goose. The large one weighs 6.5 visses to 8 visses. The common one we see weighs 2.5 visses. Before COVID-19, we imported them from China and Thailand. They are called lionhead geese in Myanmar. It is tall and has a mane-like feather around its neck. Many people are interested in baby geese. It hasn’t been long since they arrived in Myanmar,” said a goose importer and breeder.
There are two types — white geese imported from Thailand and grey geese imported from China.
“At the moment, supply doesn’t meet demand. It is not sure about market expansion. Under normal circumstances, they are good for trading,” he said.
