According to U Aung Aye Han, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, plans are underway to introduce golf tourism in Myanmar.
“We are planning to launch golf tourism in Myanmar. Currently, Myanmar has many world-class golf courses. Unlike other countries, Myanmar can operate golf tourism year-round without weather or financial restrictions. For example, in countries like Russia and Korea, bad weather during winter prevents people from playing golf, suspending the sport. During such times, we can invite them to Myanmar to enjoy golfing in milder weather,” said U Aung Aye Han.
Globally, there are over 50 million golfers, and revenue from golf tourism reached US$5.44 billion in 2023. According to the World Tourism Federation, this revenue is expected to reach US$5.88 billion by 2024. — ASH/MKKS
