The Hlawga Park has invited bird enthusiasts to come to observe a colourful blue-winged pitta which has inhabited there.
The birds arrived at the park in the first week of May, and since then, their sounds have been heard around the park.
The blue-winged pitta is a stunning and colourful bird species which migrates to the park in every monsoon season to breed, it said. It has blue wings with greenish, reddish and white feathers on its buff body and a thick black stripe on its face, making it distinct from other pitta species.
It is called ‘Moe Khaw Ngat’, ‘Myay Ngone’, and ‘Taung Ngone’ in Myanmar. It eats worms, and it is also called Tittitu Taungpya Ngat, said the Hlawga Park. – MT/ZS/ED
