Supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, action is being taken under the law against illicit trading across the nation.
During inspections on 25 June, the combined on-duty teams under the supervision of the Taninthayi Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force nabbed a motorboat with related four kinds of things (estimated valued of K1.65 million) carrying illegal timbers weighing 10.68 tonnes worth K2.13 million in Kyunsu township of Myeik district, a six-wheel Life Fan (estimated value of K20 million) carrying illegal timbers weighing 5.57 tonnes worth about K1 million in Kawthoung township, two unregistered motorbikes (estimated value of K5.2 million) in Kawthoung township and two unregistered motorbikes (approximately K700,000) in Myeik township. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export and Import Law.
On the same day, the combined teams seized illegal teak weighing 0.495 tonne valued at K188,700 in Lewe and Ottarathiri districts and illegal teak weighing 0.283 tonne and illegal timber weighing 4.178 tonnes valued at K817,864 in Kyangin township. The action was conducted under the Forest Law.
Similarly, a combined team captured a Shwe Kyair bus (estimated value of K40 million) carrying 180 kilogrammes of bracelets (presumed to be made of jade) and 15 kilogrammes of beads valued at K36.52 million without official documents at the 16th-Mile Kyaukchaw checkpoint. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
Additionally, the combined teams impounded 21 kinds of goods worth K203.66 million, including 126 cartons of glasses (each containing 96 glasses) without official documents, in Sagaing township, 525 gallons of illegal diesel (refined) worth K2.88 million in Monywa township, 210 gallons of illegal diesel valued at K2.1 million at the Yadanabon bridge combined checkpoint and illegal teak weighing 0.644 tonne and illegal other timbers weighing 2.057 tonnes valued at K1,515,300 in Mindon township. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law, the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law and the Forest Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 22 arrests were made on 25 June, with an estimated value of K318.39 million. — MNA/MKKS
