The inspection team, led by U Kyaw Myint, Member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), yesterday inspected U Maung Yone + Daw Yin Home for the Aged in Oakkan Township, Taikkyi Myoma Police Lock-up, Taikkyi District and Township Court Detention Centre, Yangon Region, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.
The inspection team inspected U Maung Yone + Daw Yin Home for the Aged under the MNHRC Law and procedures to find out whether the residents were enjoying fundamental rights, including health services, appropriate food, purified drinking water, right to freedom of religion, adequate dormitories and arrangements for leisure.
At the Taikkyi Myoma Police Lock-up and the Taikkyi District and Township Court Detention Centre, the MNHRC team inspected the conditions of detainees during the remand period, any torture that occurred during the investigation and whether there were opportunities to meet family members, as well as the provision of food and drinking water, the handling of sewage, and the overall cleanliness of the facilities.
The MNHRC inspection team will inform the relevant department under the MNHRC Law of its findings and recommendations for necessary actions. — MNHRC
