The Embassy of India in Yangon marked the 10th International Day of Yoga at Thuwunna Stadium on 21 June with a yoga session on the theme Yoga for self and society, attracting over 500 participants.
The Yangon Region chief minister, the Yangon mayor and the Indian ambassador in Yangon attended alongside officials concerned and yoga enthusiasts.
“Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice originating in India. Yoga promotes mindfulness and brings you inner peace of mind and fitness. Yoga practices developed and spread globally. International Yoga Day is held annually following its adoption by the United Nations in 2014. International Yoga Day celebrations sweep around the world to promote peace across borders and health, recognizing its universal appeal,” Ambassador Mr Abhay Thakur gave a remark.
The embassy celebrated 17 events for the International Day of Yoga between 1 and 21 June across Myanmar, with eight events in Yangon, five in Mandalay, two in Nay Pyi Taw, one in Bagan and one in Sittway respectively. Approximately 3,000 yoga enthusiasts joined the events. — TWA/EM
