Yangon Region offers over 980 hotels, accommodations for year-round tourists

More than 980 hotels, motels, and other accommodations are currently operating in Yangon, catering to both domestic and international tourists who visit throughout the year, according to U Nanda Aung, Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Yangon Region),
Throughout the year, both homegrown and overseas tourists visit 28 travel destinations in Yangon, as well as nine newly expanded ones, with monthly festivals and night markets playing a key role in continuously attracting tourists.
“In Yangon Region, there are a total of 491 accommodations, including 384 hotels, motels, and 107 guesthouses. In addition, 490 guesthouses operate under the Yangon City Development Committee’s license, totaling 981 lodgings available for tourists throughout the year. The region sees year-round visits from both domestic and international tourists to both original destinations and newly expanded ones. Tourists also visit organic farms in townships such as Twantay, Kawhmu, Kungyangon, Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Kayan, Thongwa, Hlegu, Hmawbi, and Taikkyi. Due to the visits to these places, efforts are underway to streamline the issuance of new licenses for these trips,” U Nanda Aung said.
The 28 old destinations in Yangon Region include Shwedagon Pagoda, Sule Pagoda, Tooth Relic Pagoda, Thiri Mingala Kaba Aye Pagoda, Kyaikkhauk Pagoda (Thanlyin), Botahtaung Pagoda, Datdaw Mwedaw Kanku Pagoda, Malamud Pagoda, Maha Satkya Atula Manaung Ngahtetgyi Pagoda, Chaukhtetkyee Reclining Buddha Image, Koehtetkyee Pagoda, Kamakura Buddha Statue (Japan Pagoda), Kyauktan Mid-water Pagoda, National Museum, Bogyoke Aung San Museum and Inya Lake. Among the nine new destinations in the Yangon Region open to domestic and foreign tourists are Yangon University, the Honourable Lim Chin Tsong’s OBE (Order of the British Empire) palace, Kyaik Pyatthadtanaw Kaungmmu Pagoda, and Palakkad Hindu Temple.
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is collaborating with the Yangon Regional Government, Myanmar Tourism Federation, Myanmar Hoteliers Association (Yangon Zone), and relevant departments and officials to enhance the tourism sector in the Yangon Region. — ASH/TH
