Myanmar Tourism Federation to launch pilgrimage to 19 Pada pagodas

The Myanmar Tourism Federation (MTF) has announced a new pilgrimage programme that involves visiting and paying homage to 19 Pada pagodas featuring the Buddha’s footprint in the Bagan Heritage site. This programme is scheduled to commence in July.
An official from the MTF stated, “Although many domestic pilgrims have visited Bagan numerous times due to its status as a world heritage site, only a few people are aware that there are 19 Pada footprint pagodas in Bagan. Therefore, we developed this new programme to encourage pilgrims to pay homage to each of these pagodas.”
These Pada pagodas feature mural paintings maintained by the Department of Archaeology and the National Museum. The programme will allow groups of ten pilgrims to visit and pay homage to each pagoda.
The new tour programme is slated to take place over four days, from 18 to 21 July. Activities will also include donating Waso robes and reciting Pathana treatises. — ASH/TMT
