The Environmental Conservation Department has announced that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in various townships across the country remains within acceptable levels.
The AQI was measured by the Environmental Conservation Department at specified sampling points in different states and regions, including the Union Territory. Parameters tested included Environmental Perimeter Air Station (EPAS)-Haz-Scanner Air Quality Monitoring Station (AQM-65), Scentroid (SL-50 Scential) Aeroqual (Series 500 Portable Air Quality Monitor) AQMesh (Dust Analyzer – 1941150) (Gas Analyzer-1940150), Portable Beta Attenuation Mass Monitor (BAM 1022) Air Quality Monitoring Station (AQMS), and Continuous Particulate Monitor (PM 2.5) Particulate Matter (PM 10) Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) Ozone (O3) Carbon Monoxide (CO).
The AQI for Thanlyin Township in Yangon and Kengtung in Shan State was rated at the orange level for vulnerable individuals due to high levels of Particulate Monitor PM 2.5, while the index for other states and regions was observed at yellow and green levels.
The Environmental Conservation Department noted that test results were influenced by factors such as air temperature, wind speed, wind direction, humidity, rainfall, vehicle emissions, and industrial pollution, and therefore, air quality levels may fluctuate. — TWA/TMT
